Dutch Iris. Nothing more, nothing less. Shot in my yard. I had been shooting all day in the Willamette Valley at the Green Gables Gardens and needed to finish up a roll of film.
So, I took a stroll around the yard to see what I could find—there is always something I can capture—not always well, but making the attempt is the game.
I want a certain look, I yearn and need a certain look, and—to paraphrase Mick Jagger—I don´t always get what I want. Then there are times when I surprise even myself. This was one of those times.
The petals remind me of an old chiffon-crinoline skirt belonging to one of my childhood dolls. (You have to be a certain age for “crinoline” to sound familiar to you.) The white petals almost look like fairy wings—funny how you notice these things when you concentrate and look closely.
Dutch Iris won Honorable Mention in Photography at the 2004 Florence Arts and Crafts Association Rhody Days Annual Art Show.
